Enjoy a discussion of My Brilliant Friend, by Elena FerranteBeginning in the 1950s in Naples, this is the story of the friendship between Elena and Lila.  The world these two friends inhabit is small, casually violent, and confined to the poor neighbourhood where they grow up. This  book is fierce, intense, highly emotional and utterly captivating.  There’s nothing else like it.No registration required. Simply read the book before coming to the meeting!

Celebrating Children's Indigenous Literature

Join Allison Taylor McBryde, NVDPL Librarian and UBC Adjunct Professor, for a special evening celebrating children’s Indigenous Literature in Canada.

We’re getting ready to celebrate National Aboriginal Day on June 21 by  taking a look at some of Canada’s finest Indigenous Literature publicationd for children. We will introduce picture books, novels and media by First Nations, Inuit and Metis authors, illustrators and publishers.

This session will be of interest to educators and parents seeking resources for our journey to reconciliation and understanding.

Walk on the Wild Side Summer Reading Club

Walk on the Wild Side with Summer Reading Club 2017- starts June 10! 

Join the Summer Reading Club to win prizes, collect stickers and take a walk on the wild side with us this summer!

Kids of all ages can sign up at any NVDPL location starting June 10thand after to receive a brand new reading booklet. Read on your own, be read to, listen to audiobooks- read whatever youlike! Each day that you read for 15 minutes or more, you get to record what you’ve read. After seven days of reading, you come back to the library and pick up some goodies. After 50 days or reading, you’ll be FINISHED and ready for a book prize. The library will also be hosting a party and medal ceremony for finishers in September- lots to look forward to!

Summer Reading Club runs from June 10 to September 16, so there is lots of time to finish— the goal is to make reading a regular and wildly FUN part of your summer!

Summer Reading Club is generously sponsored by:

The summer season is fast-approaching— take this opportunity to learn about wildfire!

The frequency and intensity of wildfires in BC forests is expected to increase due to conditions created by climate change. We are particularly vulnerable here on the North Shore, where we are surrounded by forests.Come out to the Library to hear a panel of experts discuss:
