Book Club Meeting: The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma

Join us for a lively conversation about this fascinating novel. This is the Cain and Abel-esque story of an unforgettable childhood in 1990s Nigeria. When their father has to travel to a distant city for work, four brothers take advantage of his extended absence to skip school and go fishing. At the forbidden nearby river, they encounter a madman who predicts that one of the brothers will kill another. What happens next is an almost mythic event whose impact--both tragic and redemptive--will transcend the lives and imaginations of the book's characters and readers. No registration required. Join us if you've read the book!

Jacqueline moved from NVDPL to lead the Library Systems department at Vancouver Community College, where she developed and supported systems‐related services for the students, faculty and staff. Following VCC, Jacqueline led the provincial government's Libraries and Literacy branch, formerly known as the Public Library Services Branch, where she worked to ensure that all British Columbians have increased library access. As the provincial librarian, she was responsible for provincial investments in libraries and literacy, including shared systems, infrastructure projects, policy and legislation.

Jacqueline leads the Library with passion, energy, and a fresh perspective, and is proud of the transformative work the library is doing for the community to connect, share knowledge and inspire stories here in the District of North Vancouver.

Welcome to Lynn Valley Village ...

Anchored by Lynn Valley public library, this pedestrian-only village has a diverse selection of shops and services. Many of the shops and services focus on environmentally conscious products and green alternatives, in keeping with the lifestyle and landscape of the Lynn Valley Community.

The Village is home to the popular Live in Lynn Valley summer concert series and numerous community events.  As in recent years many of our business and services have been voted favorites in the North Shore News Readers Choice Awards 2015.

The Village is centrally located in Lynn Valley on the corner of Lynn Valley Road and Mountain Highway
